Daycare centers can be overstimulating due to their size and higher child numbers, often separating kids by age into different classrooms. Family day homes have a maximum of six children (excluding the educator’s own children) and allow mixed-age groups, making them a better choice for families wanting lower child-to-educator ratios and a home-like setting.
While daycare programs are often structured with set fixed routines, family day homes provide a flexible, play-based curriculum that caters to individual needs, which can be less overwhelming for younger and socially anxious children.
It’s A Child’s World is contracted by the Provincial Government of Alberta to approve, administer, and monitor family day care homes. These provincially-approved day homes are under contract with our agency and must meet both provincial and agency standards. These standards not only apply at the initial set up of a day home, but to its daily operation. Continuous monitoring is undertaken to ensure compliance is maintained. The agency also ensures the day home educators are updated on current early childcare education practices with resources, materials and training on constant basis. There is ongoing support to the parents and the children in care.
