We assist families to attain quality and suitable child care that meets the specific needs of the child and parent/s in our approved family day homes. A family day home is a private residence in which care is given by an approved educator to children who are not the educator’s own. A educator can care for a maximum of six children under the age of 12 including her own. Alberta Children’s Services restricts the number of children in a particular age group who can be cared for in an approved family day home.
Our agency recognizes the importance of giving special-needs children every opportunity they deserve. Arrangements can be made to find day homes which will tend to specific requirements for these children.
It’s A Child’s World is contracted by the Provincial Government of Alberta to approve, administer, and monitor family day care homes. These provincially-approved day homes are under contract with our agency and must meet both provincial and agency standards. These standards not only apply at the initial set up of a day home, but to its daily operation. Continuous monitoring is undertaken to ensure compliance is maintained. The agency also ensures the day home educators are updated on current early childcare education practices with resources, materials and training on constant basis. There is ongoing support to the parents and the children in care.
After initial day home certification, we offer bi-monthly workshops for educators on a variety of child, family, and socially related topics. Training for day home educators in the most current practices promotes a professional, informed approach to early childhood development. We also encourage parent to participate in the on-going workshops.
It’s a Child’s World Family Day Home Agency offers throughout the year opportunities for families to participate in family events such as: Santa’s Breakfast, Summer Play in the Parks, and Child Development Workshops.
It is important to us to have families involved in their child’s child care program therefore we regularly ask for family input and involvement through our newsletter and surveys.
Agency is responsible for the collection of parent fees; and payment of educators. Consultation is available on childcare subsidy applications to the Province of Alberta. Our staff can offer advice on both family and childcare facility qualification.
